The Iron Century
2024
Made while I worked at Shosho.
The visitors centre of Drydock 'Jan Blanken' in Hellevoetsluis has been given a complete overhaul, and with that an old scale model of the drydock has 'come home'. This scale model , made out of wood and copper, represents the drydock with a part of the fortified city centre as it was back in 1835. After a restauration the maquette has been given a prominent spot in the exhibition. Visitors can walk around it, and use tablets to scan codes that will trigger videos of certain locations of the maquette.
These videos give a short insight in the life and happenings in and around the shipyard during 'the Iron Century'. Eight different stories tell about the functions of different elements on the scale model, and give a human dynamic to the technical piece.
Using motion capture we were able to make precise animations on the finnicky scale of 1:225, and breathe life into this old, massive scale model
